Winter Wonderland: Aerial Act Creation is a 4-session performance series. One week after the series concludes, participants will present their acts in a Cabaret Evening at Om Factory — with an option to perform the acts again at NYC's iconic cabaret venue The Slipper Room (additional fee applies)!
More than just a workshop — Winter Wonderland is an adventure through the creative process of aerial act development. Over the course of this workshop, you’ll be guided through the steps of building & refining your own aerial performance. This series is designed to encourage growth, exploration, and transformation, from the initial concept to the final presentation.
We’ll explore musicality, storytelling, character development, and audience engagement, as you take your aerial practice to new heights. Whether you’re a first-time performer or a seasoned aerialist, this journey will help you push boundaries and bring your imagination to life, both in the air and on the ground.
Choose your favorite apparatus — silks, lyra, rope, or hammock; solo act or duo with a partner — and prepare to embark on a path of growth, creativity, and performance. Students are encouraged to dream big and fully embrace the adventure of aerial performance.
Note: Must be able to attend ALL sessions & perform their chosen apparatus skills before enrolling.
Pre-Requisites
• Must be able to invert from the ground or air without additional assistance.
• Must be able to perform skills on the choice of apparatus prior to enrolling.
• Students must be able to attend ALL sessions to enroll.
Intermediate Level
Fran Sperling has had a passion for movement since childhood, but she was told she had 2 left feet! It wasn’t until arriving in NYC years later, that she discovered her right foot was never missing at all. Dance & acrobatic experience propelled her into an acrobatic duo partnership. Together, Fran & Karen Gersch created delightful acts, soaring through the air on Spanish web & static trapeze. Fran has performed on Late Night with David Letterman, for the Big Apple Circus, Lincoln Center, Donald Trump, and Heliummm & Chezzam event companies, to name a few.
Fran's passion is sharing her years of experience, studies, and knowledge with her students. With a background in human kinetics, she engages students to understand how to maximize aerial movement efficiently and connect mind to musculature. She also empowers her students to realize that despite what anyone may have told them or they themselves believe — they are capable of so much more!!!
